These classes are designed for individuals, men or women, who want to learn how to protect themselves but don’t necessarily have the time to commit to formal martial arts training. These classes are held one-on-one in a private lesson or with a group of friends or family.
We use the term “self protection” instead of “self defense”, because the term self defense implies that you let the assailant attack first. However, since most people who will attack you will be bigger, stronger or in groups, having the mindset of letting the attacker get the first shot in could be deadly.
Course Lengths
The courses are offered in 1, 2, 4, 6 or 8 week sessions.
What You Will Learn
We will be teaching natural and simple, but effective ways of dealing with an attack. We will show you how to utilize your hands, elbows, knees and feet to target vital areas and pressure points along with simple joint maneuvers.
We will also use scenario based training to gain a more solid understanding of the techniques in a dynamic situation. We’ll concentrate on specific scenarios you might be concerned about or a situation you may have already experienced. We’ll then adapt the techniques as needed to control the confrontation.
After you have learned a few moves we will practice on the “fist” suit. The fist suit is a fully padded “suit of armor” so to speak. This allows you to “try out” the moves you have learned on a simulated attacker with out the risk of injury.
Awareness
In addition to the physical aspect of self protection we will also discuss topics such as awareness and trusting your intuition. Knowing how to read your surroundings can be just as important as knowing how to kick and strike effectively.
